Ms. Melancon earned her Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center where she graduated Magna Cum Laude, ranked first in her graduating class. She has always been passionate about helping people and advocating for the protection of people’s rights, including constitutional protections.
As a junior editor of the Southern University Law Review, she authored a law review article concerning first and fourth amendment protection of data obtained from Amazon’s “Alexa” device that was published nationally.
Ms. Melancon also served as the president of the Southern University Law Center Trial Advocacy Board where she was a member of the winning team in the Louisiana Intrastate Trial Advocacy competition as well as serving as an assistant coach to the national trial team in New York. She was also a member of the Moot Court Board where she was the co-recipient of the Best Brief award. She has been trained by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) in Deposition Skills.
Ms. Melancon has received CALI Awards for Legal Writing and Legal Research, and was selected as a member of the research team for the Legislative Drafting Institute for Child Protection. She has also served as a judicial intern and extern for the Honorable Judge Jewel Welch of the Louisiana Court of Appeals, First Circuit.
Ms. Melancon is licensed to practice before all Louisiana state courts as well as in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.
