Crashes aren’t the only kinds of accidents on the roadway. Sometimes criminals can do things that put drivers at risk. Shots were fired at police during a car chase in New Orleans earlier this week. WVUE has the story.
Police started to search for the suspects after reports of a carjacking near Leon C. Simon Drive and Founders Road. When they found the stolen vehicle, the suspects started firing at the officers and started a chase. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The two people arrested were a 19-year-old and a 15-year-old. The older man has been charged with attempted murder of a peace officer. Police also think the couple may have been involved in a second carjacking and fired weapons at an I-10 underpass.
Traffic was redirected around Bullard Avenue and Barrington Drive during the investigation, and a nearby school was placed under lockdown.
This could have easily been much worse if one of the bullets had struck the officers or an innocent bystander. We are glad that the police were able to apprehend the suspects before any injuries or deaths happened.
