It’s no question that seatbelts save lives, yet some people still refuse to wear them. When an accident catches up to them, the results can be deadly, like in this single-vehicle crash in Washington Parish that killed two people. Fox 8 reports on the incident.
A car was traveling on LA 440 when it went off the road and hit a tree and culvert. Three people were in the vehicle at the time, and none were wearing seatbelts according to the police.
Two of the people died in the crash, which happened around 1 AM. The third sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Toxicology reports are pending on all the men to see if any were intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Wearing a seatbelt isn’t meant to restrict your freedom or prevent you from driving the way you want to. It’s meant to save your life, period. Airbags alone are not enough to prevent you from getting ejected or further injured in a crash. They’re designed to work with seatbelts.
Consider also the fact that most people will be in 3-4 accidents in their lifetime according to the insurance industry. Those aren’t good odds if you think you’ll always avoid a crash. The risk of death or great injury is too much. Please wear your seatbelts.
