Even a straightforward motorcycle accident is a cause for great concern. Motorcycle riders lack the protection that people in enclosed vehicles have. Even minor accidents have a much higher risk for injuries and deaths. While there are techniques and gear that riders can use to protect themselves, they are not foolproof. Nor does every rider use them.
All riders should at least wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself from head injuries in a motorcycle crash. Head injuries are the kind most likely to kill a rider. You may not be comfortable, but you’ll be more likely to finish your ride alive.
If you hear a motorcycle on the road, give it space. Look carefully before merging into a lane with a motorcycle so you don’t hit it.
