A trucker is accused of hitting two children and leaving the scene of an accident in Alma, Arkansas. Arkansas Online reported on the tragedy.
Alma officers were called to U.S. 64 East at the Alma city limits. They found two boys in the middle of the road with injuries. One of them later died at the hospital and the other is in critical condition.
After collecting evidence, police were able to find the semi-truck involved in the accident and seized it. The driver of the truck went to the police after the trucking company notified him that they took it and explained his story.
He says he left his work around 5 AM and was passing the weight scale when he heard and felt a collision. He stopped to check for damage but did not see what he hit. He thought he struck a deer and returned back to the office to report the damage.
When he left with a new truck, he saw the police scene at the intersection but did not stop to give a report. The driver has had his first court appearance and has been released from jail.
It is unknown why the boys were in the middle of the road at 5 AM, but it doesn’t matter. If you leave the scene of an accident then the blame will likely fall on your shoulders. You have an obligation as a driver to assist after an accident if you can. You could be saving someone’s life.
