It’s incredible to think that there are people who still don’t wear seat belts while driving. They’ve been in cars long enough and have proven their effectiveness over and over again at saving lives. Unfortunately, some people still don’t wear them and it causes tragedies like this one.
Four people were injured and one was killed in a crash in Livingston Parish when a truck struck a tree in the wee hours on U.S. 190. The person was killed was a teen who got ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt and died from his injuries at the scene.
The four other people were all seriously injured and taken to the hospital. It is unknown if the others were wearing belts or not, nor if the driver was intoxicated. The students and faculty at the deceased’s school wore red shirts in his memory.
Let this be a warning to everyone reading this. Wear your seat belt. Not only can it save your life, it can also save your compensation. If you do irresponsible things and get hurt, the amount you can receive can be reduced. Be smart and wear your belt.
If you are worried about getting tangled or stuck in it, there are tools you can buy that can easily cut through the belt to free yourself. The chances you’ll ever need to cut your belt are far smaller than the chances that wearing your belt can save you, but if it gives you the reassurance you need to keep your belt on, then do what you need to do.
