The rules of the road work because they set up expectations for all drivers. When we know what the drivers around us will do, we can respond safely and get to where we need to go without interfering with others. When they’re broken, trouble strikes.
WWL reported on an accident in Slidell where two people died and two others were seriously injured in a four car accident on I-12. The cause was a vehicle that stopped in the left lane on the interstate near U.S. 11.
According to police, the driver of the stopped car became unresponsive before the crash. He was later found to have controlled substances, though it is unknown if that driver was high before the incident.
After the car stopped, three other cars got tangled up in the pileup. Two died in the collision and two others were sent to the hospital. The drivers of the other vehicles were also tested for intoxication, though no results have been released yet.
We hope that the families of the injured and slain victims in this crash can receive compensation from the responsible driver. We also want to take a moment to remind everyone to never drive drunk or high. Stories like this are why.
