It is illegal for pedestrians and low-powered vehicles to go onto the interstates. The high speeds of other vehicles make it difficult to get out of their way, or for them to dodge you. The chances of getting struck are high, as this case demonstrates. AL.com reports.
A pedestrian was trying to cross Interstate 59/20 at the Valley Road accident in the evening. An oncoming driver hit the pedestrian. Minutes later, the pedestrian died at the scene. Police say that the driver stopped and cooperated with the authorities.
The police do not know why the pedestrian was trying to cross the interstate.

The most common reason for a pedestrian to be on the interstate is because their vehicle broke down, but these days it is much safer to stay in your car with your hood up and to call for help with your phone. Even if you can’t call for help, staying in your car with the hood up is safer than standing around. A lifted hood will signal to police that you have a vehicle issue.
Don’t use the interstates as a shortcut to get from one place to another if you’re walking. It’s just common sense. And if you must walk on an interstate, get off the road as far as you can.
