Drivers sometimes have trouble hearing motorcycles approach. The phrase is “look twice, save a life”. But failed attention can go both ways. When people don’t look, accidents happen and bikers can die, like in this case in Covington. Fox 8 reports.
Just before 5:30 PM, a man was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on US 190. For reasons unknown, he struck a Chevrolet Silverado. He was taken to the hospital and died soon after.
The truck driver was uninjured in the crash. He also submitted a breath test that turned out negative. Blood samples were also taken from both people for further analysis. Also, the truck driver received a citation for driving without a license.
We don’t know how the two vehicles tangled up, but usually the rider is the one who suffers the most risk in a crash. Other vehicles have plenty of plastic and metal surrounding them to protect the driver. Riders only have leather and helmets, and sometimes not even that.
This is why riders should take a training course from a motorcycle school. They will teach you how to ride safely and how to respond if you are about to crash. This will minimize the chance of injury and death.
