Arklatexhomepage.com reports on a vehicle accident early on Tuesday evening that had tragic consequences for a motorcyclist in Shreveport.
The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday when officers from the Shreveport Police Department responded to a reported crash on Interstate 20 at the Spring Street interchange. A motorcyclist was driving a green Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Spring Street toward the Interstate 20 west on-ramp. The driver struck the concrete traffic barrier and lost control of the Kawasaki, which ejected him from the motorcycle. He flew into traffic and landed on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of I-20.
Shreveport Fire Department found that the motorcyclist had severe and life-threatening injuries and transported him immediately to Ochsner Louisiana State University Health Hospital; however, he reportedly passed away en route and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Preliminary investigations show that the motorcyclist was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed that was excessive for the road and the conditions. Toxicology exams are pending as part of the investigation.
Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim at a later time.
This is a tragic reminder of how dangerous it can be to operate a motorcycle in an unsafe fashion. Motorcyclists must remember to be careful on the roads, and other drivers are reminded to be very aware and careful of operating around motorcyclists.
