Accidents are likely to go down for the next few weeks in Louisiana after a recent announcement by the governor. Fox 10 reports.
The governor has ordered everyone in Louisiana to stay home after 5 PM today unless they are getting food or medicine. This is to help halt the spread of the coronavirus that’s sweeping the world.
Some essential jobs are exempt from the order. Workers in grocery stores, pharmacies, doctor’s offices, manufacturers, and utilities are exempt. Places like theaters, play places, and other social businesses are to close. The governor wants to prevent Louisiana from becoming like Italy. Italy is overwhelmed by the number of cases in their population.
Currently, Louisiana has the third highest number of cases per capita in the U.S. State officials say that there are more than 830 cases in the state. 20 people have died in Louisiana so far.
“I do not take this action lightly, but there are some basic facts that we just simply cannot deny or ignore,” Edwards said, describing the state’s tenfold increase in cases during just one week. He said the state could run out of health care capacity between seven to 10 days.
The order will remain in place until April 12 unless circumstances change.
