According to Arkansas State Police, the initial accident took place on August 29, in heavy rain with wet, slick roads. A silver Honda motorcycle, traveling eastbound, ran a red light at the intersection of First Street and Olrich Street. The bike crashed into a Harley motorcycle, driven by a 45-year-old man from Oklahoma. This knocked the Harley driver into the road, where he was struck and killed by a northbound vehicle. The Honda’s rider left his bike in grass next to the intersection and ran off on foot, fleeing the scene of the accident.
The Honda rider surrendered to police at the Rogers Jail this week, according to court documents. He told police officials that he had believed the light to be yellow, that he fled the scene due to outstanding warrants. He said he was unaware the other driver had died.
He has been arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an injury accident, driving on a suspended license, and disobeying a traffic control device.
