Drunk driving is one of the most dangerous activities a person can do. The knowledge that we can get into a crash that can injure or kill us helps us stay safe when we’re sober. But when we’re drunk that goes out the window.
A case in Alexandria that killed a driver is believed to have been caused by impairment. KALB.com reported on the story.
The accident happened on Highway 112 near Parasol Road yesterday. The driver was going east and failed to negotiate a curve correctly. He drove off the roadway, overcorrected, then went off on the other side and struck several trees.
He was transported to a hospital where he died. Police believe that he was impaired at the time of the crash. He also wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
The combination of drunk driving and not wearing a seatbelt is extremely dangerous, as this case shows. But it could have been worse. Another vehicle could have been involved.
If you are going to drink, have a designated driver or an easy way to contact a ride sharing service. You can always ask the establishment you’re at to call for a ride on your behalf. No one wants to see another drunk driver hurt themselves or hurt others on the road.
If you’re going to partake, don’t hesitate. Keep yourself from driving.
