We have another story of a police chase, this time in St. Charles Parish, that involved a suspect stealing a police SUV. WDSU reported on the incident.
Early on Monday morning, the police received a tip that someone may have been shooting up heroin on Airline Highway in St. Rose near a gas station. When the officers arrived, the suspect tried to drive away, then crashed into a ditch.
He was detained, handcuffed, and put into a patrol SUV. However, while the officers were doing their investigation, the suspect managed to make his way to the front seat and steal the vehicle, fleeing towards New Orleans.
Officers followed but were unable to catch up to the suspect. One of the officer’s vehicles crashed on Airline Highway near David Drive for reasons that aren’t told in the article. The officer was uninjured.
Later, the stolen SUV was found abandoned on Toledano Street. The suspect has yet to be found. Officers have released a description, which can be found in the news article. If you know anything about the incident, please call the police department.
We don’t know if drugs were involved or not, but drug use can impair your ability to drive and make good judgments. This chase could have ended up much worse than it did.
