Whenever a semi-truck crashes on a bridge, you can be sure that the cleanup will take a long time and traffic will be terrible in the area. The residents of Scott found this out after a crash on the Mills Street overpass. KATC reports.
The police chief closed the bridge over I-10 west after the crash until the debris is cleared and the bridge is inspected. Motorists are asked to take a detour until this is complete. Signs will mark the detour once it is plotted.
The driver did receive minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. It is unknown why the driver of the semi-truck crashed. No other vehicles were reported to be involved and there were no hazardous materials on the truck.

As far as these kinds of crashes go, this was a fairly good outcome. Semi-truck crashes that involve other vehicles usually end badly for the other drivers. The heavy weight of a semi-truck gives it a lot of protection from impacts, but that same weight makes a crash with one much harder, even at low speeds.
For safety’s sake, give these large vehicles plenty of room on the road. If you see one starting to crash, that space could save your life.
