A long-running project to upgrade guard rails on roads over Lake Pontchartrain is finishing up, but a car just rolled over into the lake on a section that’s not part of the project. Fox 8 reports.
According to the police report, another car rear-ended the woman’s car on crossover number 4 and pushed it sideways into the guardrail. It flipped over into the water.

The woman involved is lucky to be alive. Bystanders were able to lower a strap down to her so she could hang on until the police could come with better rescue equipment. She does not seem to have been harmed, but she is recovering at home. The car was a loss, but the woman survived with no injuries.
After inspecting the footage, it is not likely that the guard rails in this area will be upgraded as a result of the accident, as it seems to have been a freak incident. The southbound span has seen extensive improvements to guard rails. The city has also installed 12 new safety pullout bays.
No one has been charged yet in the incident, but the police are continuing their investigation.
We’re glad to hear that everything turned out well, and we hope that the police can wrap up their investigation swiftly.
