CBS Channel 42 News reported Friday on a truck accident-caused diesel fuel spill in the Birmingham area that closed a major Birmingham thoroughfare after hundreds of gallons were spilled.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews worked tirelessly Friday to clear a 150-300 gallon spill that closed both sides of Finley Boulevard in the area of 17th Street, an effort that brought out multiple units including Engine 6, Rescues 13, 2, and 16, Decon 12 and 13, Hazmat 30, and Truck 1. The spill was contained, but cleanup took several hours.
The St. Clair Times reported Friday on a two-vehicle accident near Moody that sent a driver to the hospital.

According to spokespeople from the Alabama Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 6:00 p.m. Thursday when a commercial truck, traveling at a low rate of speed, was rear-ended by a sedan maintaining the speed limit while westbound on Interstate 20, near Exit 144B. The sedan then left the roadway and crashed, injuring the vehicle’s driver. The driver of the sedan was airlifted to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital by a medical hospital for treatment; the Alabama Highway Patrol was unable to provide an update on his condition. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
