A passenger in a semi truck got a rude awakening when it plunged off a bridge and into the Pascagoula river. The driver wasn’t so lucky. Gulf Live reports. Reports say that the semi truck plunged off the bridge around 4:30 AM. The driver was trying to avoid another accident and struck the concrete wall of the bridge. It went through it and fell down into the river. The driver’s body was recovered three hours later by dive teams. The passenger was sleeping in the back of the cab when the crash happened. He was able to escape with minor injuries. The heavier a vehicle is, the harder it is to get it to move in an emergency. From the description, it seems like the truck overcorrected and couldn’t avoid hitting the wall. Bridge walls may look sturdy, but depending on the age of the wall and the truck they may not hold, like in this case. We do not know if it could be considered a safety feature that failed or one that was just overwhelmed with force. Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased. We hope that future upgrades to the bridge will reduce the chances of a similar accident.
