The Texas Medical Board (TMB) has indefinitely revoked Dr. Christopher Duntsch’s medical license after determining he posed grave danger to patient, declaring him “unable to practice medicine with reasonable skill and safety due to impairment from drugs or alcohol”. At a hearing on June 26, 2013, information was presented that contradicts Duntsch’s claim to be an expert in “minimally invasive” spinal surgeries. Evidence shows that he has botched procedures that have killed, paralyzed, or severely injured multiple patients. Specifics vary from case to case, but each one involves mistakes, oversights, and blatant disregard for patient safety that calls into question Duntsch’s competence.
According to the TMB, Duntsch continuously misdiagnosed patients, used wrong procedures and equipment, and failed to thoroughly examine patients before operating. During surgery, certain personnel who were in the operating room with Dr. Duntsch commented that he seemed to be distracted, disoriented, and unfocused.
The TMB cited four cases in the notice of suspension against Duntsch, with two cases resulting in death.
